The reason for the rise in popularity of laminate floors in recent years for those remodeling their homes is very simple; laminate floors is cheaper to buy, are much easier to install than its solid wood cousin, and is painless to maintain. So if you have determined that you will be laying laminate flooring soon, then you will need some guidelines to follow.

Before buying anything, you will need to calculate a precise square footage of the room where you will be laying this flooring in order to know the exact amount of material to buy. Evaluate the room from left to right and then from front to back. You will now have two different lengths. Multiply those figures together for your square footage. Remember to add about 10 percent to the total for mishaps.

After you remove your old floor, explore it well to remove old nails, nail strips, glue, etc. You will need to scrape the floor to make sure that it is absolutely even. Then vacuum it well. If there are spots on the subfloor, you may want to use a product like Killz on the sub-floor. This is especially true if you have stains from cats.

Next, you will need to clear away the baseboards. If you are comfortable, you can be able to salvage them and probably reuse them.

It is entirely practical and probable that the doors opening onto this room will not do so when you are done laying laminate flooring. This means you will need to cut off the bottoms of the door jambs, case openings, etc. You will need a coping saw or something alike in order to do this.

Then it is the time to roll out the underlayment. This is a padding used to absorb the sound and force from movement and to cushion between the floor and the sub-floor. It is also to reduce any differences caused by any imperfections of the sub-floor. Without this padding, these differences would convert into an uneven appearance in your floor.

Now, you are prepared to lay the planks. Remember to stagger the joints and make sure they snap together fully and lock in place. This is the vital part of laying laminate flooring since it will be the exposed finished product that you will see. Make sure to leave a 1/4" gap between the wall and flooring to allow for "floating". Next, it is time to replace the baseboards. Be careful not to scratch into the flooring.

When you are ready to work on that project again, you just need to grab the basket and the information is ready and waiting. A disorganized desk can be very distressing for you when working from home. However, by employing a few simple organization ideas, a busy day can still be a happy day.

Planning your Office Closet Desk

As a professional organizer, I will know share my secrets with you. Start with a completely bare desk; clear off the surface and empty the drawers. Give it a quick cleaning if it needs it. Once that’s done, sit down at your desk with paper and pencil and make a quick list of all the things you do at your desk. Bills, correspondence, crafts, homework, creative writing â€" whatever you do, write it down. Once you have your list, imagine yourself doing each task. What supplies do you need for each one? Write them down.

Once you’ve narrowed down the supplies you need on a regular basis, go through the contents of your desk and put everything that doesn’t belong in a pile. You’ll probably find that there are things you use for each of your tasks, so you’ll want to put those where you can get to them. Use a desktop organizer or put them in the top drawer if you like the look of a completely clear desktop. Using trial and error, move the rest of your supplies around until you find the best storage arrangement for you.

Avoid putting things into boxes with lids because you won’t want to deal with them when you’re rushed. Bins, large or small, are more user-friendly. Try to group your items together in a way that makes it easy to start a new project. For example you may want to group typing paper and stationery. Give yourself a week with the new arrangement. At the end of that time, see what’s not working for you and make small adjustments to your storage. Add or subtract items as necessary. Some people love a clean desktop. Mine contains a vintage lava lamp, my laptop, my Rolodex and a mug full of pens and pencils. Finally, give your desk a quick once-over every night. It doesn’t take that much time to do and you’ll have the pleasure of sitting down to an organized and inviting office closet each day.
