What are Office Closets?

An office closet is the term used when a standard closet has been transformed into a work desk. This setup also allows people that live in small apartments to have the ability to work on a desk with a computer, without the requirement to set aside an entire room for an office.


The invention of the office closet demonstrates a change in the way we use our available space. In other words, the need for an office closet is a result of a need for many of us to have available workspace in our home. Prior to the invention of the internet, there would be little need to work from home in the way many of us think about this today. It is true that people still traditionally brought home work with them, but this meant dragging home a bunch of papers, etc. Today, many people can connect to their corporate network through the use of a computer and a VPN connection to the office.


As you can see, the office closet satisfies a couple of different needs. As computers and notebooks have become more portable, many workers can be productive with a dependable at-home internet connection. As for a place to perform this work, many are finding that transforming a closet into a workable space is much more convenient than trying to do work on a busy and noise kitchen table.
